My Powerful Hair is written by award-winning author Carole Lindstrom (We Are Water Protectors) and illustrated by Steph Littlebird. This is an essential book for everyone to read. The story follows a powerful and strong indigenous girl and her connection with her family, her ancestors, and her culture; her hair is a powerful part of her journey. We love this book because it is a celebration of indigenous culture written and illustrated by indigenous people. This book also addresses important (and less known) historical issues such as the horror of Indian boarding schools, which her grandmother was forced to attend. There is healing, too, with her mother, who in the end, begins to grow her hair, too, with her daughter. This book is beautifully written, and a must-have book to have in your home or school collection. 

The illustrations are striking, and bold, capturing the reader into the story. 

This book is geared towards ages 4-8.
